Cotton Branch
Agricultural Experiment Station
University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture
The
Cotton Branch Station was created in 1926 by the Arkansas Legislators
with the appropriation of $7,000.00 to purchase 160 acres of land
and build a brick residence, brick office, mule barn, machine shed,
shop building and a gin building.
Today, the Cotton Branch
Station consist of 653 acres of land, and various buildings valued
at over $2,000,000.00. Research is carried out on cotton, soybeans,
wheat and other crops that are suitable to the climatic conditions
of Eastern Arkansas. Approximately 20 Professional Researchers from
the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture carry out research
programs on the station each year.
The Cotton Branch Station
is rich in the heritage of the Arkansas Delta. The staff is highly
motivated by a tradition of making the most of available resources
to meet the needs of the Delta farmers for information and research
to help them solve the problems of modern farming and to increase
the profitability of agricultural in the Delta.
