Arts
in the Park
A series of 3 to 4 arts
events, primarily focused on musical events in historic downtown
City Park in Marianna. It is sponsored by the Lee County Museum
in an effort to bring townspeople together. The Sunday afternoon
performances are free and are supported by contributions from the
Arkansas Arts Council, individuals and businesses, and the Museum.
The concerts were designed to re-create an afternoon in the park
at the turn of the century.
Warfield
Concerts
A series of usually 8
free musical concerts is held at the Lily Peter Auditorium in West
Helena at Phillips County Community College from Sept. to March
followed by a week's Music Festival in the spring. These concerts
(mostly national and world-wide entertainment) are made possible
through the generosity of a former citizen of Helena, the late Samuel
Drake Warfield. When he died in 1967 he provided in his will for
his friends and music. His estate consisted mainly of farmland in
Phillips and Lee counties. The farmland was sold at public auction
upon his death, and the money placed in trust for these concerts.
